Shortly after 6:30 pm on Sunday the Lawrence County Dispatch received a 911 call from two hunters lost in the Rainey Brake area. Dispatchers kept the two men on the phone as members of the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Dive Team assembled and responded to the area of Lawrence 316.
The hunters had stayed until the duck season ended at 6:01 pm and then began gathering their equipment, as darkness fell in the area they realized they were off their trail and feared with the total darkness they would not be able to find their vehicle.
As the searchers arrived on scene, the team was following GPS coordinates relayed by the dispatchers. According to the coordinates the hunters were about 2/10 mile in the flooded wilderness from the nearest road. As units approached the area they activated their lights and sirens while dispatchers relayed information to the hunters. Shortly after arriving the hunters stated they could hear the sirens and began walking toward the sound, soon they advised they could see blue lights from on of the emergency vehicles. Within minutes the dim headlamps of the hunters were spotted walking out of the wilderness.
The hunters were uninjured and returned to their vehicles, units were clear from the area by 7:45 pm. For more information on the Lawrence County Sheriffs Dive Team visit www.lawrencecountysheriffsoffice.com .
