At 1:45 am on Sunday, the Lawrence County Dispatch Center received a 911 call reporting a structure fire at the 800 block of Southwest Lawrence Street in Hoxie. Initial reports stated the house was fully involved and one person was still inside the residence.

Hoxie Fire responded with several trucks and firefighters to the scene followed by Medic One Ambulance. Hoxie arrived on scene and requested the assistance of the Walnut Ridge Fire Department as well. Firefighters were on scene for quite some time, assisting in the incident were the Walnut Ridge Police Department, Walnut Ridge Fire Department, Hoxie Police and Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office.

According to Asst. Chief Will Tate of the Hoxie Fire Department, one person has been confirmed as deceased in the blaze. Arkansas State Police Investigators are assisting in the investigation. The identity of the victim has not been released at this time. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
