Lawrence County Dispatch received a 911 call Thursday night shortly after 7 pm reporting a hit and run accident in front of the Dodge dealership on East main Street in Walnut Ridge. According to reports, the subject fled the area down Hwy 91, ran the red light at Hwy 63 and Hwy 91 then turned on Hwy 228 then went to a residence on Lawrence 724.
The victim of the hit and run followed the suspect, advising law enforcement of the person whereabouts. Lawrence County Deputies, Arkansas State Police and Walnut Ridge Police converged on the residence. The suspect refused to come to the door and when officers attempted contact by phone, he again refused to speak.
Officers made the decision to remove the suspect by force from the residence. Once removed he was identified as Gregory Scott Smith. Smith was charged with Resisting Arrest, Leaving The Scene Of An Accident, Failure to Display Vehicle License, No Proof Of Insurance, Aggravated Assault, Terroristic Threatening, Obstructing Governmental Operations, Refusal To Submit To Alcohol Test, Refusal To Submit To Chemical Test, Driving While Intoxicated and Disorderly Conduct.
Smith has a lengthy criminal record, including numerous DWI arrest, numerous assault charges, fleeing and drug charges. Smith was taken to the Lawrence County Jail for a bond hearing and court date.
