At 11:46 am on Sunday the Lawrence County Dispatch received a 911 call reporting a train vs pickup crash near Lawrence 547 near Minturn. Alicia Fire and Hoxie Fire were dispatched along with Lawrence County Deputies and medical units.
According to Fire Chief Chris Ditto of the Hoxie Fire Department the pickup truck became stuck on the tracks, the occupants saw the train coming down the tracks and moved to a safe distance. The train engineer told Chief Ditto the train was traveling approximately 50 mph when it went into emergency shutdown, the train was able to slow down but still struck the vehicle and pushed it about 50 feet before coming to a stop. According to Chief Ditto there were no injuries in the incident, Hoxie Fire remained on standby until representatives from the railroad arrived to inspect the train for damage caused during the accident.
