Neil Simon’s “The Sunshine Boys” is coming to the Downtown Playhouse in Pocahontas. The play is set to debut November 7th, and it will run through early December.

“The Sunshine Boys” became a classic after opening on Broadway in 1972. The play features two aging performers who were once Vaudeville stars. The former partners have become estranged over the years, but they are pushed together to film a TV special, leading to a series of laughs.

The Downtown Playhouse production will feature Kelly Grooms of Pocahontas, Ken Benton of Corning and Ryan Cooper of Walnut Ridge in the leading roles, with Grooms also serving as the director. The production is sponsored by Fears Family Funeral Home.

The audience at the Downtown Playhouse is treated to dessert and coffee, as well as a show. The newly renovated theater opened to sellout crowds this summer with the hit drama “A Time to Kill.”

“The Sunshine Boys” will be staged November 7, 13, 14, 20, 21, 22, 27 and 28, and December 4, 5 and 6. Cost is $18, which includes admission, dessert and coffee. Tax and tip are not included in the price. Reservations can be made at www.thedowntownplayhouse.com.
