According to the National Weather Service, Lawrence County along with Randolph, Clay, Craighead, Greene, Poinsett, Cross, Lee, St. Francis, Phillips and Crittenden have been placed under a Fire Weather Watch through Saturday evening.

Conditions are favorable with winds expected to be sustained at 14-15 mph and low humidity of 15 to 25 percent. According to the Lawrence County Office Of Emergency Service there have been no burn bans issued as of Thursday. Lawrence County OES stated there have been numerous fires reported around the county but all have been contained by local fire departments.

In at least two fires lately, Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputies and Arkansas State Police have been requested for traffic assistance with roadways being obstructed by smoke causing hazards for drivers. It is recommended to suspend any controlled burns at this time until conditions change, also if you are unsure always contact your local fire department before burning.

The Lawrence County OES said if any burn bans were issued they would do notifications of the effected areas.
