The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Dive Team has purchased a second boat to add to it’s inventory this week. The members of the Dive Team raised part of the funding by selling chances on a Glock Model 43 pistol that was given away at the conclusion of the Beatles at the Ridge Festival.

The Sheriff’s Dive Team relies on funding for it’s boats from the Arkansas Game and Fish which ranges from $1000 to $1500 annually so when members wanted to purchase a second boat additional funding needed to be raised. The team was able to raise over $1500 with it’s raffle, 100% of the funds went towards the purchase of the boat.

The team expressed it’s need to Sheriff Yates earlier in the year about the need for a jet boat in it’s fleet for use on the Spring River, Upper Black and Strawberry Rivers, shallow conditions make it impossible to use a prop type boat and the team typically does several recoveries a year in these shallow bodies of water. Sheriff Yates agreed and allowed the team to not only put on the raffle but supported the purchase of the jet boat.

This week the boat was placed into service with only a few additional projects to yet be completed. Graphics for the boat were done by Jeff Floyd of Walnut Ridge. The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Dive Team would like to recognize Mr. Perry Manus and Mayor Charles Snapp for their support of the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Dive Team. Also appreciation for those who visited members of the team during the Beatles on the Ridge Festival held in Walnut Ridge.
