On Thursday members of the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Dive Team along with the Pocahontas Fire Department Dive Team traveled to Clay County to assist the Clay County Sheriff’s Office with a search in the “Little Black River†at Success Arkansas.
The search has been ongoing for several weeks after a local claimed he saw a body while fishing in the area. Once reported the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Clay County Task Force, Corning Fire Department and Arkansas State Police searched the area that same night until the search was called off at 1 am. The following day the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Dive Team was requested for assistance, the team joined Arkansas Game and Fish, Arkansas State Police, Clay County Sheriff’s Deputies, Butler County Missouri Investigators and the Clay County Task Force. An extensive search was conducted of the area that yielded no results.
Butler County Investigators have been on scene throughout the search, investigators have two missing persons from Butler County and believe the victim may be one of the two. During Thursdays search, extensive sonar work was performed by the Pocahontas Fire Department of the river bottom while divers cleared deeper areas. Task Force members walked the banks searching for any evidence of a body as well. The witness has been interviewed by the Arkansas State Police multiple times during the search.
Sheriff Miller called the search off around 3 pm today after negative results and concluded that until additional leads surfaced or water levels decreased he would suspend future searches. Agencies involved in the searches were the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Clay County Task Force, Clay County OES, Corning Police Department, Corning Fire Department, Arkansas Game and Fish, Arkansas State Police, Butler County Sheriff’s Office, Lawrence County Sheriff’s Dive Team, Pocahontas Fire Department and numerous volunteers.
