At 10:36 pm Friday night the Imboden Volunteer Fire Department and AET Ambulance were paged to an accident on Hwy 62 just across the Spring River Bridge. It was reported that a vehicle had struck a cow in the road and there was one reported injury.
Medics arrived on scene and immediately requested a medical helicopter respond to the location. Imboden Fire Chief Jim Jones gave coordinates to land the medical helicopter on Hwy 62. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputies in the area were requested by Randolph County to assist with the scene and responded. Survival Flight medical helicopter informed ground units of a 20 minute estimated time of arrival, medical crews on scene made the choice to move the patient to the landing zone at the Imboden Fire Department by ambulance. Lawrence County Deputies stayed on scene until the Randolph County Deputy arrived around 11:10 pm.
Firefighters divided their efforts as some remained on scene to assist with traffic and the clearing of the highway while others returned to the landing zone to assist with the landing of the medical helicopter. The ambulance left the scene with the injured victim and met the helicopter. The victim was flown to a local hospital for treatment of injuries.
The identity of the injured or the extent of injuries was not released. The accident will be investigated by the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office. No word if the animal was killed or just injured.
