Chief Jim Jones with the Imboden Volunteer Fire Department has announced that effective July 1st the department will receive it’s lowered ISO rating changing the department from an ISO 4 earned in 2009 to the new ISO 3 received after the department expanded and made some huge advancements in training and membership.

Jones stated that in order to receive the lower ISO rating the department did some major recruiting of new members and he explained those new members have worked very hard to not only complete the necessary training but also exceeded with additional advanced training. Imboden also expanded it’s department by adding the substation in Annieville at Lawrence 224 and Hwy 115, this addition was critical according to Jones after the department looked at the large volume of calls in this area and the addition on firefighters living close to the substation. As of currently the department houses it’s Engine 7 at the facility and Imboden recently acquired a Humvee military vehicle from surplus and will convert it into a brush truck.

Jones went on to commend several others in being a part of the ISO being lowered. He said if the former mayor and council had not supported things like the water department and purchasing of fire equipment then the department would not have been able to advance the way it has. Jones also stated that not only is membership increased but the number of individuals that attend meetings and training is up as well. Average meetings at the fire department are around 25 members according to the Chief.

Jones stated that with the lowering of the ISO, some residents will see saving on their homeowners insurance. Although not guaranteed most insurance companies give discounts for lowered ISO ratings since they use the fire departments ratings when figuring the cost of a home owners policy. Individuals should contact their respected insurance companies to inquire about this.

Pictured, Imboden firefighters received shirts and caps from the department on Monday night, Jones said the gear helps the public identify the firefighters when they arrive on a scene. Jones stated the department is looking into long sleeve reflective wear for the firefighters in the near future.
