On Saturday the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Dive Team in conjunction with the Lawrence County Offices of Emergency Services conducted a rescue/recovery drill at Lake Charles State Park.

The drill/exercise consisted of 60 victims located across the lake for those participating to recover and transport to the overlook at Lake Charles where the injured were triaged according to the injuries and appropriate transport planning was arranged. Those in attendance included Lawrence County Sheriff Jeff Yates, County Judge Dale Freeman, Randolph County Office of Emergency Management, Black Rock Fire Department, Black Rock Police, Lake Charles State Park employees, Powhattan State Park employees, Strawberry Fire Department, Lawrence County Sheriff’s Dive Team and members of the Lawrence County Office of Emergency Management.

The Sheriff’s Dive Team conducts several types of drills/exercises throughout the year, This year’s drill was conducted as a part of the Office of Emergency Services required drill. Participants worked on triage, communications and logistics required to move equipment and coordinate in the event of such a disaster or mass loss of life.

The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Dive Team wanted to extend extra “Thanks” to Black Rock Chief Pat Roby and the Black Rock Fire Department, all the help received from the local Arkansas State Parks and the Strawberry Volunteer Fire Department.
