At 5:05 pm on Tuesday evening the Lawrence County Dispatch received a 911 call reporting some type of fire around the Crisler Farm Shop located on Hwy 34 just outside Walnut Ridge, Walnut Ridge Fire was paged to the scene. Officers from the Walnut Ridge Police Department along Hwy 34 also noticed the large amounts of smoke coming from the area and responded for assistance as well.
Officers and Walnut Ridge Fire arrived on scene to find a fuel tanker completely engulfed in flames just behind the farm shop building. Fire Chief Frank Owens immediately called for mutual aide from the Hoxie Fire Department as well as water tankers from Sedgwick, O’Kean and the Pocahontas Fire Department. Firefighters on scene used water to cool the building close to the fire, a helicopter located near the fire was moved to safety by the owner. According to reports, some 500 gallons of aviation fuel and approximately 100 gallons of herbicide were burned in the fire as well as a forklift and the tanker truck.
AET Ambulance was called to the scene for standby, Lawrence County Office of Emergency Services as well as Lawrence County Sheriff Jeff Yates were also on scene. There were no injuries in the incident, units were on scene for several hours before extinguishing the flames. No word on the cause of the fire.
