Storms moving across Lawrence County early Monday morning made for a challenging commute for some. Beginning around 1 am Lawrence County was placed under a Flash Flood Warning until 6 am as a line of storms moved through the area.
Lawrence County Deputies reported hail and high winds in the Portia area and several fire departments received notifications about trees down across roads. At 5:24 am Smithville Volunteer Firefighters were called to Hwy 117 in the Denton area after the Lawrence County Dispatch received a report of a downed tree partially blocking the highway. At 6:07 am the Ravenden Volunteer Fire Department responded to a similar call with a downed tree blocking Lawrence 107, firefighters responded and removed the tree. Walnut Ridge Fire Department was warned of flooded streets around East Free, SE 2nd and SE 3rd street.
Low-water crossings in the Imboden and Ravenden areas were also covered leaving some impassable. Crews with the Lawrence County Road Department were notified and had equipment out early Monday attempting to repair any damage.
While lightning, heavy rain and some hail was reported, there were no reports of serious damage or injuries in the line of storms that passed through the area.
