On Thursday a student at the Lawrence County Cooperative School apparently became choked on a piece of candy, as the staff rushed to notify 911, a board member of the school who happened to be the Fire Chief for the Portia Fire Department stepped in and dislodged the candy from the choking student.

Greg Duckworth, the Portia Fire Chief and Board Member for the Lawrence County Cooperative School happened to at the right place at the right time. The actions of the Fire Chief were commended on the Lawrence County Cooperative School’s Facebook page, the post went on to say that the entire staff did a great job.
