According to Monday’s Quorum Court meeting, Justices voted not to pay $10,000 to the Northeast Arkansas Regional Intermodal Facilities Authority. According to estimates, Lawrence County has given more than $150,000 to the Intermodal for what has been described as failed projects. the group was originally formed to attempt to bring industry and jobs to Northeast Arkansas.
Although supported by some justices the organization was opposed by Judge Freeman and several other justices. Alleged plans for future projects involving the Walnut Ridge Airport and possible housing were brought up in discussing but when the final vote was taken it was decided not to include the fee of $10,000 in the 2015 budget.
Other frustrations with the organization included the fee being increased from $1,000 per year to $10,000 per year starting in 2015.
