The NEA Education Cooperative HIPPY (Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters) Program provided activities for the final summer reading program at the Imboden Public Library. To support the summer theme “Fizz, Boom, Read,” each child created his/her own play dough volcano. In addition to learning many facts about volcanos, the children learned about the reaction of baking soda and vinegar as they witnessed the eruption of their volcanos. The afternoon was highlighted by a return of “Rob the Puppet” who shared enriching books and facts about volcanos and our most active volcanic state, Hawaii.
The children created their own play dough volcano.
Kody Lester, a HIPPY student, shows his pleasure as his volcano erupts.
