Friday July 4
12:30pm – America’s Bird: The Bald Eagle
Seen soaring high over Lake Charles, the bald eagle is one of our national symbols. Once almost lost to environmental damage, the number of eagles is on the rise. Join the park interpreter at the nature center to discuss these majestic raptors and what you can do to help ensure their survival.
Nature Center Open — 1-3:00pm
4:00pm – Lawn Games: Washer Toss (Meet behind beach bathhouse)
How good is your aim? Challenge other park guests to a game of washer toss for prizes and bragging rights. Meet in the shade by the day area fishing pier.
6:30pm – Evening Kayak Tour
Join the park interpreter for an evening kayak tour of the lake. We will paddle across the lake to visit one of the large coves, and hopefully see some of the wildlife found around the lake. On our way back, we may even have a little race. $10.00 for adults, $5.00 for children ages 6-13. Children aged 6-13 must be in a tandem kayak with an adult. Please register by 3 p.m. at the visitor center office and specify whether you need a solo or tandem kayak. Space is limited so be sure to sign up!
Saturday July 5
1:00-2:00pm – Cannon Firing
Celebrate Independence Day with a boom! Join us as we fire off our Civil War cannon in honor of the holiday. We’ll need some volunteers to help us, so you may even get to be the one to fire the cannon.
Nature Center Open — 2:30-4:00pm
6:00pm – Evening Barge Tour
Join park staff for a leisurely cruise around the lake on our pontoon. We will embark from the Snapp Fishing Pier in the day-use area and make our way around the lake, visiting some of the coves and watching for the numerous types of wildlife found on and around the water. Space is limited, so sign up early! $10.00 per adult, children 6-13 $5.00. Please call or stop by the visitor center to sign up or for more information. Sign up will be open until 4:30pm Saturday July 5.
Sunday July 6
Nature Center Open — 10:00pm-12:00pm
11:00am – Meet a Snake
Stop by the nature center as the park interpreter discusses some of the common snakes found in the area. You can even meet one of them up close!
Nature Center Open — 1:30pm-3:30pm
2:30pm – Meet a Gator
Join the park interpreter at the nature center as we discuss America’s living fossils, the alligator. You can even meet one of the park’s ‘gators up close!
