In a meeting on Tuesday, the Lawrence County School Board voted to close the Black Rock campus and consolidated the school at the end of the school year.
According to school officials this is due to the decline in enrollment, Black Rock and Walnut Ridge merged in an effort to keep the campus open. At the time of the merge, the enrollment at Black Rock was around 340 and had dropped to 261 students.
The board also advised there would be a reduction in employees after the decision was made to transfer the students to the Walnut Ridge campus but did not release any details on how many or who.
