A routine traffic stop in Lawrence County leads to the arrest of a Harrisburg man. A deputy made a traffic stop on a 2011 Nissan on Hwy 67 just outside Minturn for defective equipment, as the officer approached the vehicle he smelled the strong odor of what was believed to be marijuana.
The deputy ask the driver for consent to search the vehicle, the driver agreed. As the vehicle was searched, a hidden compartment was discovered containing 8.5 grams of marijuana. According to the deputy, a hidden panel located on the side of a console contained the marijuana and a set of digital scales.
The driver was identified as Herkus Gene Bailey, DOB 2/2/1936 of Harrisburg was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Once in custody, authorities learned that Herkus Gene Bailey was recently charged in Poinsett County for drug charges and was out on bond and also on Federal Probation. Bailey was taken to the Lawrence County Jail.
