As heavy snow fell in Lawrence County on Christmas, driving conditions across the county went from bad to impossible.
Officers from Hoxie, Walnut Ridge, Sheriff’s Deputies and several fire departments braved the snow covered roads to assist accident victims. By 10 pm, Hwy 63 in Black Rock was snow covered and deputies from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office worked several accidents, often more than one at a time. Snow plows traveled up and down the main highways but the blizzard like conditions quickly recovered the roads.
Several individuals had to abandon their vehicle and be taken home by officers, Sheriff Dotson had the Sheriff’s Office HumVee’s out in full force, attempting to assist where they could.
As the snow built up on the highways, the traffic finally tapered off giving officers a little break in the action sometime around 5 am. Most of the accidents were minor, thankfully!
