Around 6 pm on Thursday, a front moved through Lawrence County bringing some much needed rain to the area, but it may not be enough.
Reports show that our area is some 12 to 15 inches below normal for the year when it comes to rainfall. Creeks and rivers in the area show the effects of the drought. Records show that the current drought is the worst since the 1950’s.
Thursday’s storms brought rainfall amounts from 1  inch to almost 1 1/2 inches in other areas, fire departments in the county had a few calls of trees down and debris in roadways but nothing major was reported.
As of Friday, Lawrence County was still under a Burn Ban, other surrounding counties are under the ban as well. Forecast are showing slight chances of rain in the extended forecast but none so far are showing significant amounts.
