2-4 p.m.
Come take a look at some live animals that call Lake Charles State Park home. A park
interpreter will be on hand to answer questions. Located near the swim beach in the day
use area.

Friday, June 22

RED FOX, GRAY FOX
1:30 p.m.
Nature Center
Arkansas is home to both red and gray foxes. Discover how the differences between
these two creatures are more than just color. See and touch fox skins and skulls.

NIGHT FLIERS
3:00 p.m.
Nature Center
Owls are one of very few birds who are active at night. Discover the special features of
this amazing nighttime raptor and learn about Arkansas’ four native species.

NIGHTTIME NAVIGATION
9:00 p.m.
Visitor Center
Have you ever wondered how the people of long ago found their way at night without
street lights or GPS? Stargaze with a park interpreter and discover the ancient art
of nighttime navigation! We will meet at the visitor center at 9:00, then travel to our
stargazing location.

Saturday, June 23

FEED THE CRITTERS
1:30 p.m.
Nature Center
Have you ever watched a snake have a snack or a newt have a nibble? It’s dinner time
in the nature center at Lake Charles State Park! We will be feeding snakes, alligator,
fish, turtles, and more, so come to watch the animals eat and learn about how they feed
themselves in the wild.

SIDEWALK CHALK
3:00 p.m.
Nature Center
Help our park interpreter decorate the sidewalks outside the nature center with colorful

drawings of your favorite Arkansas animals.

DINNER AND KAYAK CRUISE
6:00 p.m.
Swim Beach
Looking for an exciting evening adventure? Then join us for our dinner and kayak
cruise! Enjoy a delicious Dutch oven dinner, then head out for a guided tour of Lake
Charles as the sun sets. Kayak experience is not necessary, but reservations are.
Cost: $15 per person

WHOSE SCAT IS THAT?

Everyone enjoys nature’s beauty, but you can also learn a lot from looking at the gross
side of nature, too. Join a park interpreter at the nature center to discover what you can
learn about animals from their scat.

TURTLE TALK
3:00 p.m.
Nature Center
Discover some of the many types of turtles found in and around Lake Charles. Meet a
park interpreter at the nature center to see both land and water turtles, and learn about
these creatures’ special adaptations.
