On June 30th, Chief Deputy Ted Horton will retire from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office ending a career that spans more than 30 years in Lawrence County.

Chief Deputy Horton has worked for Hoxie, Walnut Ridge, Arkansas Department of Corrections and the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office during his career. Chief Deputy Horton has served several sheriff’s in Lawrence County through out the years.

It will not be same at the Sheriff’s Office as you roam the halls, one memory that we will always cherish is when visiting the department, passing Ted’s office and seeing him look up over his glasses and ask “Are you going to do anything today?” or “Are you gonna amount to anything?”

His gruff since of humor will be missed by many, his dedication to the entire county will be missed by all. There are those of us that look at Ted as not only the Chief Deputy but also a mentor in life.

Normally when I write an article, I try not to put any personal feelings or opinions into it, but with this one I just can’t do that. I first met Ted in the early 1990’s, since then I have gotten to know a man that has worked with the Sheriff’s throughout the years to help the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office and it’s Deputies grow to what it is today, for that Chief Deputy Horton needs to be commended for his leadership and hard work.

Thank You Ted, we appreciate you, admire your dedication and wish you all the best in your future! (We are pretty sure that will involve some crossword puzzles and camping trips)

Your service has made Lawrence County a better county and it’s made me a better person for knowing you!
