On Thursday it was evident that this Memorial Day Holiday was going to be a busy one for law enforcement in Lawrence County.
Traffic on Hwy. 63, Hwy. 67 and 412 began to get heavier as the day went on. By Friday, Hwy. 63 through Imboden was bumper to bumper with boats, RV and holiday travelers moving through the area.
Deputies from Lawrence County along with officers from Walnut Ridge, Hoxie, Black Rock and Ravenden stepped up their patrol efforts on the main highways throughout the county.
One of the main concerns for officers were impaired drivers on the roads. Officers made a multitude of arrest for Diving Under The Influence as well as several drug arrest.
The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office along with the Arkansas State Police concentrated high traffic areas in the county. Extra deputies were placed on the highways in an effort to make the holiday safe for travelers in Lawrence County.
For every arrest made by city officers, county officers and state troopers, one more family traveling through the area avoided being in an accident with an impaired driver.
Along with law enforcement, fire departments and ambulance services in the county were on high alert as well, knowing the next call could be a major accident somewhere in the county.
