The Lawrence County Dispatch notified deputies Wednesday evening of a Sharp County inmate who escaped from a work detail around 2:30pm.
Sharp County Sheriff Mark Counts stated that Adam Leroy Mathis walked away from a work detail at the Cherokee Village Dog Pound.
Sheriff’s deputies believe that Mathis was possibly assisted by his wife Allie Mathis and may be driving a dark colored 4-door car with damage to both front and rear bumpers. It was also reported that Adam Leroy Mathis had shaved his head and face before escaping to alter his appearance.
Mathis was to be extradited to Denton County, Missouri to face charges of Felony Forgery. Sharp County originally began it’s search locally but has since notified surrounding counties and authorities in Missouri as well.
