AHTD has announced that the aging Black River Bridge in Black Rock will be replaced, construction is slated to begin in 2013 to replace the current bridge which was built in 1949. Officials deemed the current structure as deficient following a 2010 inspection which rated the bridge a 24 on a scale of 1 to 100.

The 30 million dollar proposed project would have 4 lanes, an 11 foot median and 8 foot shoulders, a huge upgrade to the current narrow 2 lane structure with no shoulders. The project is expected to be the same length, built just feet from the current structure. Officials estimate the construction will take 3 years to complete.
