On October 18, 2011 the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office arrested Jonnie Dunegan (01/29/66) of Batesville for theft by deception. The arrest came after an Imboden resident reported that he had paid Dunegan $3500 to do some tree work and other general labor on his property. Dunegan cashed the checks written to him for the work but never showed up to do the work. Several months went by and the work was never done and when contacted by the property owner about getting his money back that did not happen either. Investigators gathered information and used that information to obtain a warrant for Dunegan. Independence County was contacted and Dunegan was picked up and held until a deputy could get to Batesville to bring Dunegan back to Lawrence County to await a bond hearing.
