State Senator Robert Thompson has announced that he is running for re-
election next year.

“I am proud to have served northeast Arkansas in the state senate since
2007,” Thompson said. “I hope to work hard for the people in my district for four
more years.”

Thompson’s current legislative district includes Clay, Greene and
Lawrence Counties, and part of Craighead County. After the recent legislative
redistricting plan was approved by the state Board of Apportionment in July,
Thompson’s district will grow to include part of Randolph County, and the city of
Pocahontas, as well as the city of Brookland in Craighead County.

“My focus over the next four years will be keeping Arkansas’ budget
balanced while promoting job growth and economic development,” Thompson
said.

“Our state is one of the very few that has kept its budget balanced while
avoiding massive job cuts or reduction in education and other state services,” he
explained. “We need this continued responsible leadership in order to grow the
economy and remain competitive.”

In the legislature, Thompson has been instrumental in providing funding for
drug courts, to fight crime and drug addiction. As a member of the Joint Budget
Committee, Thompson has worked to keep Arkansas’ budget balanced while
voting for over $30 million in tax cuts during the recent legislative session.

A native of Paragould, Robert Thompson is a lawyer and former deputy
prosecuting attorney. Before his election to the Senate in 2006, he served one
term in the state House, representing the city of Paragould. He and his wife Tori
have two sons and a daughter.
