On Saturday, June 23rd, students and staff of the Sloan-Hendrix School District teamed with students and staff of the Maynard and Pocahontas School Districts for the 7th annual “Stuff the Bus” supply drive sponsored by The United Way, Crowley’s Ridge Development Council, Jonesboro Radio Group, and KAIT. Volunteers stood outside the doors of the Pocahontas Wal-Mart and collected donations of school supplies which were divided and “stuffed” into three buses and will be given to underprivileged students who are not able to purchase back-to-school supplies. Any leftover supplies will be stored in a supply closet and will be given to students as needed throughout the school year. The Sloan-Hendrix School District would like to thank everyone who donated supplies and money for this event. At the end of the day, 14 large boxes of supplies had been collected. In the Northeast Arkansas area, the “Stuff the Bus” drive collected 21,251 school supplies and $3,487.44 in donations.
Volunteers for the event included Brian Keough, Beth Gosha, Becky Foreman, Rick Tate, Andi Hickman, Kyrsten Caton, Brenda Bailey, Shawn Phares, Shara Phares, and Lakyn Phares.
