On May 29, 2011 the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Dept with assistance from the Portia Police Dept arrested Romer Schmitt (01/24/85) of Amite, LA for possession of a controlled substance (meth), possession of a controlled substance (marijuana) and for driving left of center. The arrest came after officers stopped the vehicle Schmitt was in for crossing the center line near Portia. Officers asked Schmitt if he had any illegal substances in the vehicle and he told the officers that he did. Schmitt pulled out a baggie of marijuana and a pill bottle containing meth. Schmitt was placed under arrest and transported to the Lawrence County Jail to await a bond hearing. Bond was set at $2,500 and a Circuit Court date of June 29 was issued at a hearing on May 29.
