In several conversations around town today,you may have listened in on the topic, “Do you remember where you were 28 years ago today?”
It was on December 3rd 1982 that the flood waters hit our area after regions north and west of Lawrence County received rainfall in excess of 12 in a 24 hour period. Former students recalled Sloan Hendrix releasing students at around 9:30am from school and by noon the local creeks were our of their banks and houses were starting to flood around town. According to the United States Geological Service it was the worst flood to hit Arkansas since 1945.
