Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office Captain Jody reports that on August 27th deputies made an arrest in an assault in Saffell.

The Lawrence County Dispatch Center received a 911 call around 9:07pm of a fight at Saffell with a man unconscious. Deputies, the Saffell fire Department and AET Ambulance of Imboden were all dispatched to the scene. At the scene Steve Lawson of Saffell was found unconscious and transported to the Elvis Presley Trauma Center in Memphis via Air Evac helicopter. Lawson had been knocked down and struck his head on the pavement according to witnesses on the scene.

Witnesses on the scene identified Travis Hatler of Saffell as the person who committed the assault, Hatler was taken into custody by the LCSO deputies on the scene. The deputies began an investigation and learned Hatler and Lawson had both been drinking and got into a fight. When deputies ran a check on Halter, he showed to be on probation. Deputies also noticed a rifle in Halter’s truck as well as a bag of marijuana. Upon further investigation deputies also found drug paraphernalia in the vehicle.

Hatler was place under arrest and transported to the Lawrence County Jail, bond was set Monday August 30th at $150,000.00 and a court date of October 12th was given.

Lawson was last report in critical condition by the trauma center.
