At 5:04 pm the Lawrence County Dispatch Center paged out the Imboden Volunteer Fire Department to a structure fire on Hwy 63 in Imboden. Imboden responded with all it’s units to the fire.
When on scene at Imboden Feed and Supply the IVFD was facing a barn containing an estimated 1000 bales of hay. Imboden Fire Chief Chris Jones had Ravenden, Smithville and Black Rock fire departments paged for additional man power.
After thousands of gallons of water and hours of battling the fire Chief Jones called Excavator Gordan Hickman and ask for Mr. Hickman to bring a piece of his equipment in and remove the building and spread the hay so firefighters could contain the blaze. Once the building was removed the IVFD used foam to smother the remainder of the fire.
AET Ambulance of Imboden was on scene as well as the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department to assist with traffic.
Imboden was clear of the scene and back in service at 8:50pm. No injuries were reported but the building and the contents were a total loss. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
In addition the Imboden Volunteer Fire Department would like to give a big “Thank You” to Judy Henderson and S&H Quick Shop of Imboden for providing several cases of water and bags of ice. We appreciate you very much.
