Saturday August 7th, just after 5am the Black Rock Volunteer Fire Department was called to 205 8th Street in Black Rock to the scene of a church on fire.
Black Rock Fire Chief Pat Roby explained that when the fire department arrived on scene there was heavy smoke showing from the structure. The building was the Black Rock United Pentecostal Church.
Shortly before 6am Chief Pat Roby contacted the Lawrence County Dispatch Center and requested an ambulance for standby and manpower from the Portia Volunteer Fire Department. AET Ambulance of Imboden responded as did the Portia Volunteer Fire Department with several firefighters. The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department was also on hand to assist.
At 7:13 am the Black Rock Fire Department requested the Mobile Air Support Unit from the Imboden Volunteer Fire Department. Imboden responded with two firefighters, Rescue 3 and the Mobile Air Support Trailer.
The building suffered extensive damage and the cause of the fire was still being investigated at the time of this article. Black Rock was clear of the scene around 9am and there were no injuries reported.
