Recently ImbodenLive was fowarded an e-mail about calls to and from area codes 809, 284 and 876. Included in the email was a link to AT&T’s website that verified the email was correct.
Calls coming from these area codes are reported to be asking questions about family or telling you that you’ve won a prize. In each case they ask that you call a number with the 809 area code right away. If you call it you will get a long recorded message which is a scam to keep you on the phone for longer periods of time, thus causing telephone charges that can reach into the thousands of dollars.
AT&T ask that you review your telephone bills carefully and make sure the charges are only from your provider. Also return only calls from those you know. If you think you have been scammed contact your provider.
