June 18th the LCSO arrested Melissa Hancock of Pocahontas for Criminal Mischief 1st Degree, endangering the welfare of a minor, DWI and refusal to submit. The arrest came after a 911 came in to the Dispatch Center about an intoxicated woman with children in the car ramming a motorcycle at Sandy Beach near Black Rock. Deputies responded and spoke with the owner of the motorcycle. The owner reported that Hancock was upset and had run into his parked motorcycle twice and did about $1500.00 in damage. Hancock then struck a tree as she fled the area. A few minutes later Hancock was located near the same area with her children still in the vehicle.

Hancock was placed under arrest and transported to the Lawrence County Jail where she refused to take a test for DWI. Hancock was taken to a bond hearing on Monday where bond was set at $5000.00 and a Circuit Court date of June 30th was issued.
