The National Weather Service in Memphis TN. has placed Lawrence and Randolph Counties under a Heat Advisory. Temperatures for the next 5 days are expected to loom around the 100 degree mark with heat index values to reach 105 to 109 degrees.
A large area of upper level high pressure will build over the mid south this weekend into early next week. Heat and humidity will not subside much at night with temps only dropping into the mid 70’s in most areas. This will add to the danger for people who cannot find a way to adequately cool down.
Along with the danger from heat exposure also comes a danger for wildland fires caused by dry conditions. If at all possible you need to suspend any outdoor burning.
During this heat wave we ask that you check up on elderly family and neighbors. If you have pets make sure they have plenty of water and shade.
Remember, The National Weather Service says that a heat advisory means that a period of hot temperature is expected. The combination of hot temps and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat illinesses are possible. Stay out of the sun. Stay in air-conditioned rooms and check up on relatives and neighbors.
