Thursday January 14th 2010 the classes of Mrs Adams’ Kindergarten and Mrs Grisham’s 2nd grade were treated to a visit by Captain Joe Chappell of the Imboden Volunteer Fire Department who spent a few minutes with them in the classroom followed by demonstrations that were performed by firemen, police and ambulance personnel outside of the building. Deputy Rocky Chappell of the Lawrence County Sherriff’s Department informed the classes of his duties and then allowed the students to see his police car as well as his lights and sirens. Wendell Jones and Gene Ponder with AET Ambulance of Imboden gave tours of the ambulance told the children what the different things in the ambulance were and Lt. Buddy Williams with the Imboden Volunteer Fire Department gave the children a demonstration of Imboden’s powerful Engine 2 deluge gun, spraying a stream of water what appeared to be 60 or 70 feet in the air. He also explained what the Self Contained Breathing Apparatus or SCBA did for firefighters when fighting structure fires.
The success of the program could be clearly heard in the screams and cheers of the students. Thanks to Joe Chappell, Rocky Chappell, Gene Ponder, Wendell Jones and Buddy Williams for putting on a great
program.
