Producers Beware!! I just got confirmation from a neighboring county that armyworm numbers are on the rise.

Half the fields checked were treatable levels. Please start checking your fields and be diligent about it.

You can identify an armyworm by the inverted “Y” on its head. They also have four sets of prolegs or rear legs, this can be best seen from the side. Also notice the four dots on the rear of the worm. You can see them in the closeup picture. Please part the grass and look all the way to the ground. You most likely will never see them driving and looking. Once you see damage it is usually too late to do anything anyway.

If you have any questions please call the Lawrence County Extension office at 870-886-3741
