Shortly after 11:30 am on Tuesday authorities closed traffic on Hwy 63 after a man threatened to harm himself by jumping off the bridge at Black Rock.

Black Rock Police and Fire, Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputies, Portia Fire and ProMed Ambulance were all dispatched to the scene.

Traffic was closed for an extended period until the subject was safely talked from the bridge’s rail by law enforcement. ProMed Ambulance was requested to access the person for injuries.

No names have been released in the incident, as soon as the scene was safe and cleared, Black Rock Police reopened traffic.

Update: Chief Archer of the Black Rock Police Department stated an Arkansas State Police Crisis Negotiator and a Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputy were able to convince the man from harming himself, Chief Archer stated he was transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital for a mental evaluation.
