Walnut Ridge Mayor Charles Snapp and his wife, Jackie, are establishing two scholarships at their hometown college. The Snapps are funding the scholarships to benefit local students who attend Williams Baptist College.

The Charles & Jackie Snapp Scholarship is aimed toward WBC students who are either employees or children of employees of the City of Walnut Ridge. It will be worth $1,000 per year.

The Jackie Carmon Snapp Scholarship will also award $1,000 per year to a Williams student. The preference for that scholarship will be students from Walnut Ridge, or from Lawrence County.

Mayor Snapp announced the scholarships in his State of the City address last week, noting two strong connections to WBC.

“With the merger of Walnut Ridge and College City at the first of the year, Walnut Ridge is now one of only 17 cities in Arkansas with a 4-year college,” the mayor said. “On top of that, Jackie is a graduate of Williams with a bachelor’s degree in business. We are proud of WBC and proud to be supporters of it.”

Recipients of the scholarships will be determined by the Office of Financial Aid at WBC.

“The generosity of Charles & Jackie Snapp is making it possible for more students from our community to enjoy the benefits of a Williams education,” said Dr. Tom Jones, president of Williams. “We appreciate their friendship greatly, and we are excited to be a part of all that is happening in Walnut Ridge under Mayor Snapp’s leadership.”
